Day 1
Sit back, relax and enjoy your journey aboard the Alaska Railroad as you travel through stunningly scenic panoramic vistas. Your day one destination is Talkeetna, Alaska. The historic village of Talkeetna is nestled at the base of Mount McKinley (Denali), North America's tallest peak. You will be taking the Mahay’s Jetboat Scenic-Three Rivers Tour! Your exciting trip will begin aboard the “Talkeetna Queen” as it whisks you into the heart of the wilderness in comfort and safety. The trip will take you on three rivers: the Talkeetna, Chulitna, and Susitna. You will go through the Chulitna River Gorge and experience Class 2 and 3 whitewater. During the 1/4 mile leisurely nature walk you will see a Dena'ina Indian Encampment and visit an authentic trappers cabin with its rustic furnishings and see how they lived in the “Bush” at the turn of the century. You will also visit a replicated native encampment. You will be served a selection of hot beverages and locally baked chocolate chip cookies. This trip includes a stop at an amazingly large uninhabited beaver lodge, and you will have opportunities to view nesting bald eagles, beaver activity, and moose. You just might see black bear or grizzly bear roaming the shore. Overnight Included.
Day 2
Spend the morning exploring Talkeenta then board the Alaska Railroad for your trip to Denali. Once you arrive in Denali your hotel will send a shuttle to pick up and take you to check in to your hotel. Then you are free to explore the gates of Denali National Park for the afternoon. Overnight Included.
Day 3
This morning you will be departing your hotel at the gates of the park heading deep within Denali National Park. The remote lodge, located at the end of the 95 mile Park Road in Kantishna, offers you a complete Denali Park vacation experience -- and surprising comfort. After winding through the Alaska Range, deep into the heart of the Denali park, the "Park Road" offers opportunities to see Denali's famed wildlife: Grizzlies, Caribou, Moose, Dall Sheep, Wolves, and Eagles. And, should the weather smile upon you; above all of it towers Mt. McKinley (Denali) itself. At the very end of the Denali Park road, past Wonder Lake, you'll find a unique enclave in the park known as Kantishna. This area is home to Denali Backcountry Lodge. Denali Backcountry Lodge offers comfortably appointed cedar cabins. Each cabin is heated and enjoys its own private bath -- unexpected luxuries for such a remote location. Dining and lounge areas are found in the spacious two-story lodge. Overnight Included
Day 4
The lodge’s program hosts special natural history presentations by the staff and many featured guest speakers. Two outdoor gazebos near Moose Creek are great places to relax, and a suspended foot bridge spanning the creek offers access to many hiking trails. Activities at the lodge include naturalist-led programs, guided hikes & walks, gold panning, evening presentations, mountain biking, photo opportunities, optional Flightseeing, and a natural history library and video collection. When Denali itself is "out," guests can hike or shuttle to spectacular viewing areas, where even the novice can end up with truly stunning photographic results. Overnight included
Day 5
Depart the lodge early in the morning back to the gates of the park. Board the Alaska Railroad heading back to Anchorage. Tour concludes in Anchorage
